History of the city
Welcome to Lenwood, a city of Barstow with a rich history from the Mojave Desert that originated from the discovery of gold, silver and later borax, a white mineral used in cleaning products. Over the years mining produced hundreds of millions of dollars in value. Today Irrigated agriculture and the mining of agate, jasper, copper, and salt supplement the economy.
The area has become a major artery in transportation with the I-40, I-15, or State Highway 58 that connects cross country. Not just roads, rail like Amtrak’s Southwest Chief run daily from Chicago to Los Angeles and reverse with the famous Route 66 running through nearby Main St.
